What does a Houston restaurant need from a POS?

Houston kitchens often speak Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese or Korean, while the floor works in English. A good POS lets each person read the same order in their own language, handles big family tables with split checks, and adds one combined sales tax rate without manual math at the register.

A Bellaire phở house sells the same bowl in sizes with a dozen protein choices. Restaurant POS Studio builds that as variations and modifiers, so the server taps once and the kitchen ticket reads clearly in Vietnamese.

Many Houston kitchen teams speak Spanish, whatever the cuisine. Because language is set per user, the cook can work in Spanish while the owner reviews reports in Vietnamese or English.

  • Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese and Korean screens
  • Size variations and priced modifiers
  • Split checks for large family tables
  • Allergy flags printed bold

How do I sell crawfish by the pound?

Set crawfish as a product sold by weight, with a price per pound, and add the seasoning and spice level as forced modifiers. Add-ons like corn, potatoes and sausage become priced optional modifiers. The kitchen ticket shows weight, spice and add-ons on one line, so nothing is guessed at the boil station.

Crawfish season brings long tables and big orders in Houston. A scale at the counter can weigh orders, and the price per pound can change in seconds when market prices move.

Station routing sends boil orders to one kitchen screen and phở or fried items to another. Ticket timers show which table has waited longest, so the expo can push the right order out first.

  • Sell by weight with a price per pound
  • Spice level as a forced modifier
  • Station routing for the boil station
  • Change seasonal prices in seconds

How is sales tax set up for Houston?

You enter your combined sales tax rate for the location, which includes the Texas state rate and any local parts that apply at your address. If you want each part shown in reports, build them as a tax group. Check your rate with the Texas Comptroller or your accountant.

Locations inside and outside city limits, or in different districts, can carry different combined rates. If you run a second location in Sugar Land, Katy or Pearland, give it its own rate in its own location settings.

Menu prices stay tax-exclusive, the way Texas guests expect. The tax report shows tax collected per location and per day, ready for your filing.

  • Combined rate per location
  • Tax group for state and local parts
  • Separate rates for suburban branches
  • Tax report per day and location

Setup notes for Houston

What our onboarding desk checks first for restaurants here.

  • Set kitchen screens in Vietnamese or Spanish per cook, and keep the owner's account in the language they read best.
  • Build crawfish, shrimp and crab as weight-priced products before the season starts, so prices can be changed in one place.
  • Houston summers are hot: keep the router and printers away from the kitchen line's heat and grease, and test the printer before each Friday.
  • Turn on auto-gratuity for large parties so long family tables at the weekend do not leave servers short.

Houston restaurant questions

Onboarding desk · usually replies within a business day

Can my Vietnamese kitchen and Spanish-speaking line both read the tickets?
POS Studio

Yes. Each cook picks their own interface language, and product names can carry translations. The same order shows in Vietnamese on one screen and Spanish on another. Allergy flags print bold either way.

I have locations in Houston and Sugar Land. Do they need different tax setups?
POS Studio

Possibly, because combined local rates can differ by address. Each location in Restaurant POS Studio has its own tax rate or group. Check each address's rate with the Texas Comptroller and set it per location.

Can I take crawfish orders online for pickup?
POS Studio

Yes. The online store is built from your products, including weight-priced items and modifiers. When you change the crawfish price at the POS, the online price changes too. Orders arrive on the kitchen screen like any other order.

Does it work for a Korean BBQ place on Long Point?
POS Studio

Yes. Table timers, per-person or per-table set prices, and meat add-ons fired from the table all work. Korean screens are set up for the team. Tips can be pooled across servers who share grill tables.

Can I run a buffet and a la carte menu in the same restaurant?
POS Studio

Yes. Sell the buffet as a product, priced per adult and per child, and keep a la carte dishes as normal products. Both appear on the same check. Reports show how much came from each.

What if a storm knocks out our internet?
POS Studio

Use a mobile data hotspot as a backup connection so tablets stay online. Orders already saved are kept on our servers. Put the router and printer on a UPS so a short power cut does not stop service.
